New Normal Positive Deviance, part 2 video

A “New Normal” for social change interventions: Focus on the positive deviants--

Between 1986 and 2007 over 50,000 children in Northern Uganda were abducted by the Lords Resistance Army. Children were exploited as porters, sex slaves, and soldiers. As the conflict died down many children escaped or were rescued. However, the return of the children to the community was met with resistance since the children were viewed as having sided with the enemy. Many girls resorted to selling their bodies to survive, but some girls, the Positive Deviants found ways to effectively reintegrate into their communities through daily practices. This video documents the strategies used by the Positive Deviant girls, such as collecting extra firewood and water to sell, and listening to mentors.
